JJ Hinderberger
I was born in Juneau but raised in Haines, Alaska along with my four siblings. I value community, place-based education, and cultural inclusion. I am passionate about education and want to make a positive impact on students, families, and our communities.

I began my educational career working in a collaborative Head Start and Juneau School District preschool program at Sayéik: Gastineau Community School. Fast forward five years and I ended up writing the grant to further support this program for the Juneau School District. What makes it even more full circle, is that my own children were able to attend that very same program recently.

My career path has taken me to Juneau and Unalaska, Port of Dutch Harbor. I have worked in a variety of educational roles including preschool teacher, elementary teacher, elementary principal, special education coordinator, district testing coordinator, English language learning coordinator, university instructor, and educational consultant. Most recently, I have focused extensively on early childhood education, instructional coaching, professional development, curriculum development, and educator support. I currently teach university courses in Early Childhood Education and Educational Leadership and have partnered with local nonprofit organizations to provide professional development and curriculum design support for childcare providers in Southeast Alaska. I have also provided special education consultation and instructional coaching services for educators working across a variety of educational settings.

I have extensive experience leading committees, planning and delivering training for staff, and navigating the diverse needs of schools and early childhood programs. I am so grateful for the experiences that I have had as an educator, and they continue to spark my curiosity and passion for learning and supporting others.

While working as both a teacher and a principal, I was always eager for feedback and coaching to improve my practice. I find that we spend so much of our energy and effort on the feedback that we give students that we sometimes neglect educators. In order to best support children, we also have to ensure we are continually growing in our own practice.
I find that the most effective professional learning is relationship-based, practical, non-evaluative, and ongoing. Educational leaders and program directors are often balancing countless responsibilities while also trying to support teachers, staff, children, and families in meaningful ways. Whether in a school or an early childhood setting, it can be difficult to find the time and space for reflective coaching, instructional support, and long-term systems improvement. I remember feeling stretched thin and wishing I could clone myself just to get everything done.

I provide customized coaching, professional development, and instructional support for educators, school leaders, childcare providers, and early childhood programs. My work includes instructional coaching cycles, curriculum development, inclusion and special education support, educator mentoring, and professional learning tailored to the unique needs of each organization. This work is non-evaluative and designed to support educators in being the best version of themselves. When educators and leaders have the support they need, they are better able to help children reach their fullest potential.
I absolutely love the school and early childhood environment and believe in the power of connection, kindness, and positive attitudes. Never underestimate the influence a teacher, caregiver, leader, and entire educational community has on a child's success.

I look forward to working with you!
